About

Professional Background

My work in the drinking-water sector began with direct responsibility for disinfection and chlorination systems. As my experience grew, so did the scope of my work across water treatment—from conventional treatment processes and plant performance to equipment evaluation, treatment chemicals, and broader technical and operational issues. Over time, this wider perspective also led to supervisory and management responsibilities at the treatment-plant level, including at a large municipal drinking-water treatment plant.

Chlorine safety developed alongside my technical work in chlorination from the very beginning. What started with safe operation and response to chlorine incidents gradually expanded into risk assessment, preventive and protective measures, emergency planning and response, and chlorine security. Teaching also became part of this path very early in my career. Sharing what I had learned through technical courses, training materials, and professional writing in the field of chlorine has remained a continuous part of my work.

My academic work was influenced by the same practical environment. During my PhD in Applied Chemistry, the challenges I had seen in large-scale chemical dosing helped shape my research interests. I focused on advanced oxidation processes for the degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater, with particular attention to hydrodynamic cavitation as a way of generating reactive oxidizing species within the process without relying on direct addition of chemical oxidants. In that sense, my doctoral research grew partly from a real operational question I had encountered in practice.

Education & Professional Development

My academic background is in chemistry. I hold a PhD and an MSc in Applied Chemistry from Bu-Ali Sina University and a BSc in Pure Chemistry from the University of Tabriz.

I have expanded my knowledge in areas closely connected to my work through a wide range of professional courses, programs, and technical learning activities. Among the most significant are the Water Management XSeries Program offered by DelftX / Delft University of Technology, including Drinking Water Treatment, Urban Sewage Treatment, and Introduction to Water and Climate.

Other notable training includes a course on Crisis Management at Water Utilities during the 2016 IWA World Water Congress in Brisbane, and Chlorine Emergencies: An Overview for First Responders, offered by The Chlorine Institute in collaboration with TRANSCAER.

Formal courses have been only one part of my learning. Much of my technical knowledge has developed through regular study of authoritative guidance, standards, manuals, and professional references, together with field experience and what I have learned from colleagues over the years.

Real operational problems have often led me back to technical sources in search of better answers. At other times, something I found in a guideline, standard, or technical reference has suggested a practical improvement or a better technical decision.

chlorine.ir

I am the Founder, Owner, and Manager of chlorine.ir, an independent scientific and technical platform focused on chlorine, the chlor-alkali industry, and related topics in safety, standards, and technical knowledge.

The idea for chlorine.ir grew out of years of professional experience, continued study of specialized sources, and interaction with different parts of the chlorine production and user community. I created the platform to develop a focused knowledge base that can bring together reliable technical, safety, and educational content and help connect industrial experience with authoritative scientific and technical references.

chlorine.ir has its own identity and direction, while zonouzian.com presents the broader scope of my professional work and development.
